“Enhancing the aspirations of the Muriwhenua Incorporations shareholders past, present and future by creating development opportunities in cultural, economic, environmental and social outcomes”
Muriwhenua Incorporation was established to protect, manage, and grow Māori freehold land on behalf of its shareholders. Since 1965, our role has been to steward whenua responsibly, honouring the intentions of our tūpuna while creating opportunities for present and future generations.
We manage significant land holdings across Te Tai Tokerau and represent approximately 4,000 shareholders. Our responsibility is both practical and cultural: to balance sound governance and commercial decision-making with tikanga Māori and intergenerational care.
Empowering whānau to shape their own future.
Our vision is to enhance the aspirations of the shareholders (past, present and future) by creating development in cultural, economic and social outcomes.
Who We Serve
Our primary responsibility is to our shareholders and whānau trust beneficiaries. We also engage with local communities, partners, and stakeholders across Te Tai Tokerau.
Our work is guided by the understanding that Māori land is not simply an asset, it is a living connection to identity, history, and future potential.
How We Work
Muriwhenua Incorporation operates under Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 and is governed by a Committee of Management who act in the best interests of shareholders.
We are committed to:
Our Values
Our values shape how we govern, how we work, and how we engage with others. They reflect who we are as Muriwhenua and the principles we carry forward from our tūpuna.
These values influence our decisions, relationships, and long-term direction. Learn more about the values that guide us.
Strategic Priorities
Our strategic priorities provide focus and direction for how we manage whenua, develop opportunities, and support whānau wellbeing.
They are reviewed over time to ensure we remain responsive to changing environments, aspirations, and opportunities — while staying true to our long-term vision.

Our Identity
Our logo represents more than a visual identity — it reflects our whenua, whakapapa, and collective story. The elements, colours, and forms are grounded in place and meaning, and connect our past with our future.
The rata moehau encapsulates the struggles and determination of our Muriwhenua shareholders and beneficiaries to retain turangawaewae on the whenua. The last vestige of whenua left over time. The flower of the Rata Moehau blooms in an otherwise challenging landscape and transcends human machinations and as a taonga it reminds us that Muriwhenua has an obligation and responsibility to provide always for future generations.
